Green Bay, WI - Glenn Herzog scored in the 84th minute to give Wisconsin-Green Bay a 2-1 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers Sunday afternoon in the conclusion of the Nike Soccer Classic.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 19th minute on freshman Luke Gagliardi's (North Branford, CT/North Branford) first goal of the season. However, UW-Green Bay would tie it up just 10 minutes later on Josh Okompa `s one time shot from David Chin.
After some back and forth action in second half, Herzog finally put a header behind Pioneer goaltender Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England/Sandon) for the game winning goal.
Besides Gagliardi's goal, the Pioneers were led offensively by seniors Gustavo Netto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/LaGuardia C.C.) and Nick Loyd (Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) who registered 3 and 2 shots respectively. But the Pioneers were still out shot by UW-Green Bay 20-11
The Pioneers, now 1-1, look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they visit Providence. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
