Hanover, NH - Freshman Jeton Shoshi (East Hampton, NY) scored in the 87th minute and Sacred Heart held on for a 1-0 win over Dartmouth in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon. The goal was Shoshi's first as a Pioneer.
Shoshi headed the ball through traffic in the box, just past Dartmouth goalkeeper Rowan Anders. Jesper Frerikkson (Gothenburg, Sweden) assisted on the goal, sending the ball across the box for Shoshi to catch with just under four minutes left in regulation. It was Fredriksson's team leading 13th point of the season.
The two squads played an evenly-matched, physical first half, with each team taking six shots. Anders made a huge save for the Big Green in the 26th minute, halting the Pioneers' attack despite having a defender down.
Dartmouth turned on the jets in the second half, however, out-shooting Sacred Heart 11-4, maintaining possession for the majority of the period. One of the Big Green's best chances came in the 63rd minute when Mike Ordonez had a chance with a header at an open goal, but just missed it wide.
Anders finished with five saves in goal while Sacred Heart's Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England) tallied four saves for the shutout.
The Pioneers are back in action when they travel to New Jersey to face NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday afternoon.
