Loretto, PA - Nemanja Filimonovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Denis Brunotte (Flintbek, Germany) each posted a goal as Sacred Heart defeated Saint Francis (PA) on the road Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers built a 2-0 lead midway through the second half and Alex Fait (Ottawa, Canada) made six saves in the final 45 minutes of play to secure SHU three points in the Northeast Conference standings.
Sacred Heart (5-4-1, 2-1-1 NEC) outshot the Red Flash 5-1 in the first half. The Pioneers would break through with 7:49 to play in the half on Filimonovic's second goal of 2009. The senior center midfielder found space and dribbled into the SFU penalty box and deposited the ball into the left corner of the net from 10 yards out.
Saint Francis (PA) (4-8-1, 0-3-1 NEC) turned the tables in the second half firing 12 shots to the Pioneers four. Fait made all six of his saves in the second half. Brunotte pushed the SHU advantage to 2-0 with a finish from a Thomas Flanagan (Lynbrook, NY) pass.
The Red Flash cut the Sacred Heart advantage to 2-1 with a marker from Wayne Tiller with 1:54 remaining in regulation. Saint Francis (PA) would not be able to find the equalizer as the Pioneers held on for the win.
