Fairfield, CT - Sophomore Jason Tessitore (Ansonia, CT) scored two goals in a seven minute span in the second half to lift Sacred Heart to a 3-1 win over Robert in a crucial Northeast Conference men's soccer game Sunday at Campus Field.

With the win the Pioneers (7-7-1, 3-4-0 NEC) move into a momentary tie with Robert Morris (7-6-4, 2-2-3 NEC) for fourth place in the standings. The top four teams at the end of the regular season next weekend will qualify for the league playoffs.

The Colonials jumped on top right away, as Ryan Zabinski scored at the 5:53 mark. Jason Pelletier lofted a crossing pass from right to left and Zabinski collected it and fired a shot into the open corner of the net, past Pioneer goaltender Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England) to give Robert Morris the 1-0 lead.

Junior Brice Victor (Bridgeport, CT) evened the game at one apiece with a header in the 30th minute. Victor took a corner service pass from Raphael Rezende (Greenwich, CT) and whacked the ball into the right corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

Tessitore took the game over in the second half, scoring what turned out to be the game winning goal in the 60th minute when he corralled a loose ball in front of the net a pounded it past Colonial goaltender Matt Felice. Tessitore struck again at the 66:03 mark to put the game away for the Pioneers. Junior Ricarti Mendes (Campinas, Brazil) lofted a pass from 40 yards out that landed on the foot of Tessitore, who fired a shot across into the open left corner of the goal.

Tessitore's two tallies on the day give him five markers for the season and 14 total points, tying him for the team lead with freshman Jesper Fredriksson (Gothenburg, Sweden).

Sacred Heart dominated most of the game, out shooting Robert Morris 28-13. Felice made nine saves for the Colonials to keep the game close, while Jones stopped three shots to earn the victory for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers are back in action Tuesday night when they visit Army in non-conference action. Game time at West Point is set for 7:00 pm.
