Oct. 24, 2006
West Point, NY - Chris Conklin set-up two second half goals as Army beat Sacred Heart, 3-0, in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday night at Clinton Field.
The Knights jumped on top very early when John Kubeika scored in the fifth minute. Chase Spruill sent a crossing pass through the goal mouth and Kubieka was on the oppposite end to pound home his third goal of the year.
After going to the half with a 1-0 lead, the Knights doubled it up two minutes in the second half on a corner kick. Conklin fired the ball in from the corner and Doug Jones was in front to put the ball behind Pioneer goaltender Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England). Conklin would find Chase Hunter in the 64th minute to finish off the scoring for the evening.
The Pioneers, who rested several of their regular players, actually out shot the Knights 12-10 for the game. Freshman Jesper Fredriksson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and sophomore Jason Tessitore (Ansonia, CT) each had four shots for SHU.
The Pioneers close out the regular season with a pair of road games this weekend. Sacred Heart will continue their NEC playoff push with a visit to Mount St. Mary's Friday at 3:00 pm.
