Men's Soccer Preseason Poll Released

Aug. 20, 2009

The Sacred Heart men's soccer team is slated to finish seventh in 2009 according to the preseason coaches poll released by the NEC this afternoon. Monmouth is tabbed as this seasons favorite, garnering five first place votes. The Pioneers are set to open the 2009 campaign September 1 at home against Providence. The SHU conference schedule begins October 2 versus Monmouth.

Sacred Heart (7-7-3, 4-3-2 NEC) and fifth-year head coach Joe Barroso finished above .500 in league play for the second consecutive season and picked up a 1-0 win in September over a ranked Dartmouth team. Junior Mario Mililli (Shelton, CT) will be called upon to shoulder much of the goal-scoring load from the midfield after placing third on the club with two goals and an assist a year ago. The Pioneers will also benefit from the return of Jesper Fredriksson who missed significant time last season due to an injury.
