FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 5, 2009) - Sacred Heart sophomore Alex Fait (Ottawa, Canada) was named the adidas / Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Co-Player and Co-Rookie of the Week by the league office. It is the first NEC award in either category for the sophomore goalkeeper.
Fait posted three consecutive shutouts last week, helping the Pioneers to wins over Yale (Sept. 29) and Mount St. Mary's (Oct. 4), while preserving a scoreless double overtime draw with nationally-ranked Monmouth (Oct. 2). Fait made six saves against the Bulldogs before standing on his head against the #10 Hawks, coming away with nine stops, including a diving save on a MU free kick at the end of the first stanza. With time dwindling in the second OT, the sophomore came off his line to smother a shot and preserve the tie. Fait went on to tally 10 saves against the Mount en-route to the fifth clean sheet of his rookie campaign - a mark that is tied for second in the NEC. The Ottawa, Canada product is currently in sole possession of the second slot in the league in both save percentage (.917) and saves per game (6.88), while his 0.59 goals against average ranks third.
Fait and the Pioneers are back in action this weekend taking to the road to face NEC foes Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA).
