Men's Soccer Visits Army in Final Non-Conference Tilt Tuesday
Oct. 23, 2006
The Set-Up... The Pioneer men's soccer team steps out of NEC play for the final time this year, paying a visit to Army Wednesday night at 7:00 pm. SHU has posted a 4-3-1 mark in non-conference play this season with wins over Maine, Holy Cross, Georgia State and Dartmouth.
Last Time vs Army... Each team scored a first half goal and the Sacred Heart Pioneers and Army Black Knights played to a 1-1 tie in a physical men's soccer contest Tuesday at Campus Field. Jason Tessitore scored the Pioneer goal.
Scouting the Black Knights... Army enters the contest with a 6-8-1 record on the year, coming off a double overtime win against archrival Navy on Friday in West Poin. The Knight are led offensively by Chase Hunter and Garrett Dresel, each of whom have scored five goals on the season. John Borland and John Kubieka each have four markers for the Black Knights. Goaltender A.J. Glubzinski has posted a 1.66 goals against average.
Pioneers Split NEC Pair... The Pioneers split a pair of games in their weekend of NEC play. Sacred Heart dropped a 1-0 decision to Saint Francis (PA) on Friday, in a game played in a driving rain storm. The difference in the game was an own goal by the Pioneers in the 87th minute. Sunday the Pioneers rebounded for a 3-1 win over Robert Morris to remain in contention for an NEC playoff berth. Sophomore Jason Tessitore scored two goals in a seven minute span in the second half to lift the Pioneers to the win.
The NEC Picture... As the final weekend of the regular season approaches, there is still much to be decided in the NEC playoff picture. The Pioneers are currently tied for fourth place, and the final spot with Robert Morris, but hold the tiebreaker over the Colonials.
