Fairfield, CT - Pioneers men's soccer goaltender Matthew Jones (Stoke-on-Trent, England) has been named to the NSCAA All-New England Men's Soccer Second Team.
Jones posted a shutout in each of the Pioneers seven wins. In posting a 1.01 goals against average, Jones allowed just 19 goals in starting every one of the Pioneers games. He posted four straight shutouts and allowed just four goals during an eight game Pioneer unbeaten streak which propelled the Pioneers to a playoff spot. Jones' seven shutouts were second most among NEC goaltenders.
Behind Jones stellar defensive play, the Pioneers completed the second biggest single season turnaround in NEC history. After garnering just one point in conference play in 2004, the Pioneers piled up 15 this season, posting an overall record of 7-7-4 and a 4-2-3 mark in conference play, to earn their first ever NEC tournament bid.
