Pioneer Men's Tennis Wins Twice at Fairfield Double Invite
The Sacred Heart men's tennis team opened their 2010 fall season over the weekend at the Fairfield Doubles Invitational at Fairfield University. The SHU pairs of senior Kirill Kaysanov and Nick Mazzarese and senior Jacob Miller and junior Chadd Sullo won their titles in their respective flights.
Kasaynov and Mazzarese finished 3-0 in their in Pool #2 section B round robin play, beating teams from UConn (8-6), Fairfield (8-4) and Queens College (8-7 (4)). The duo posted an 8-3 win over Quinnipiac's Andrew Weeden and Brett Francis in the semifinal round and earned a second win over Queens in the Final. Kasyanov and Mazzarese beat David Burstein and Nikolaj Wulff 8-5 to take the Pool Title.
Miller and Sullo made their way through the Pool#3 round robin round with a 3-0 record and beat their teammates in the semi's and Saint Peter's for the title. The dup won 8-6 over Fairfield, 8-2 over Saint Peter's and 8-2 over Hartford in the round robin. Miller and Sullo topped teammates senior John Harvey and GS Jinal Shah, 8-1 in the semifinals and took down Saint Peter's Alex Frakes and Luccas Coutinho 9-8 (2) for the title.
