The Sacred Heart men's tennis team competed at both the University of Connecticut Invitational and the 2010 USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center College Invitational over the weekend.
At the NTC Invitational, the senior team of Nick Mazzarese (Stonington, CT) and Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) earned a pair of doubles victories in the "D" Doubles draw. The duo beat the team of Guillermo Paiz and Dom Devaux-Lovell of Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-5. The moved out of the quarterfinal round with a 9-8 win over the team of Rhys Hobbs and Dalen Klassen of Marist, 9-8. The two fell in the semifinal round to Dan Richardson and Ravi Yegva-Ramen of Princeton, 8-4.
Mazzarese won his opening singles match in the "F" Singles draw, beating Sergey Igel of Saint Peter's, 7-5, 6-0.
At the UConn tournament, the team of senior Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) and grad student Jinal Shah (Mombassa, Kenya) posted a pair of win in the Flight "A" Doubles draw. The opened with an 8-5 win over Matt Wierzwl and Ryan Sullivan of Holy Cross and an 8-5 win over Bucknell's Kelly Morque and Anton Kovic. The duo came up short in the semifinal round, losing to Quinnipiac's Brian Mikkelson and James Kwei, 8-1.
In the same bracket, senior Jacob Miller (West Chesterfield, NH) and junior Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) advanced to the quarterfinal round with wins over Andrew Weeden and Brett Francis of Quinnipiac, 8-4. In the Flight "B" Doubles draw, senior John Harvey (Wethersfield, CT) and junior Logan Mohring (Naples, FL) won their opening match against Hartford's Joel de los Santos and Edgardo Ureta, 8-5.
Miller won his first match in the "B" Singles draw, beating Bryant's Callahan, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Luka Bagi (Branford, CT) beat Holy Cross's Connor McCann, 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round of the "C" Singles.
