WEST HAVEN, Conn -The Sacred Heart men's tennis team rebounded from losing the doubles point by winning four singles matches to take home a 4-3 victory over the Siena Saints Sunday afternoon at the Yale Indoor Tennis Center. The Pioneers improve to 1-2 on the season.
Sacred Heart had to battle back from dropping a highly contested doubles point. The teams of Luka Bagi (Branford, CT) and Anthony Savio (Bagalore, India) and Brian Power (Pelham, NY) and Matt Dean (Newington, CT) both lost tough 6-5 matches. Kevin Budrawich (New Canaan, CT) and Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) defeated Darren Reisch and Matt Funiciello, 6-2 for Sacred Heart's only doubles win.
The Pioneers battled back in singles action, notching wins at #2, #3, #4 and #6 singles. Dean and Budrawich were able to capture three set victories, while Savio and Pagan earned victories in straight sets. Savio had the most convincing win of the afternoon at number six singles, dropping just one game on his way to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Matt Funiciello.
The Pioneers take on former conference foe, Monmouth, on Saturday night at the Yale Indoor Tennis Center at 7:00 pm.
