WEST HAVEN, Conn – Brian Power (Pelham, NY) won a thrilling third set tiebreaker at number one singles Saturday night to lift the Pioneers to a 4-3 win over Saint Francis University at Yale Indoor Tennis Center. The Pioneers are now 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Northeast Conference.
"The Flash are a very gritty and talented team. We had to grind out every point as our opponents were very determined and well-coached. I am proud of our players," Head Coach Paul Gagliardi said.
The Pioneers won two doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. The duos of Matt Dean (Newington, CT) and Power and Anthony Savio (Bangalore, India) and Luka Bagi (Branford, CT) both got wins over SFU.
In singles action, Pagan and Savio both earned straight set wins to set-up a winner take-all match at number one singles between Power and Washi Gervais. With the pressure on, the sophomore from New York came up with a clutch 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (6) win to clinch the victory.
