Men's Tennis Seeded Fifth in NEC Championship

FAIRFIELD, Conn – The Sacred Heart men's tennis team earned a five seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference to be held Thursday through Saturday at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. SHU will take on fourth seeded Robert Morris at 11:30 am on Thursday morning.

The Pioneers are 6-12 overall this season and are 3-3 in the Northeast Conference.  Sacred Heart's three NEC wins have come against Saint Francis University, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Wagner. Junior Justin Pagan (Flushing, NY) and freshman Anthony Savio (Bangalore, India) have led the way for Sacred Heart this season. Savio has a team-high 11 dual match wins, including a 5-1 record in NEC matches. Savio's lone defeat came on Sunday afternoon against Christian Duarte of top-seeded Bryant. Pagan is 4-2 in NEC matches this season and 8-10 overall. Including the Fall, Pagan has a team-high 14 singles wins this season.

The Pioneers still have two matches left in the regular season. Sacred Heart takes on the Quinnipiac Bobcats today, before welcoming the Fairfield Stags to the SHU Tennis Courts tomorrow afternoon.

Sacred Heart lost 5-2 to Robert Morris on March 21st. Savio and Matt Dean (Newington, CT) recorded singles victories for SHU. The Pioneers lost two three-setters.
