The Sacred Heart men's and women's tennis teams posted matching 7-0 wins over Holy Cross in dual match action over the weekend. The SHU women evened their dual match record at 4-4 while the men improved to 5-4 overall.
The Pioneer women swept all six singles matches and won two of the three doubles matches for the 7-0 sweep. Sophomore Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) led the charge in singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kristen Meahl at the #1 spot. She teamed with freshman Rebecca McMullin (Brighton Victoria, Australia) for a win over Meahl and Carolyn Chandley at #1 doubles, 8-5.
Junior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) defeated Chandley at #2 singles, 6-4, 6-0 and fellow junior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) beat Emily Marr at #3 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Sophomore Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) beat Hailee Lange at #4, 6-1, 6-0.
Senior Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) earned a win at #5 and also picked up a double victory. Kasinow beat Ivette Konopka 6-1, 6-1 and teamed with fellow senior Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) at #2 doubles for an 8-3 win over Marr and Emma Rudnik. Sophomore Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) closed out the win beating Kathryn Wilkie at #6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
On the men's side, SHU won all three doubles and all six singles matches. Junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) posted a 6-1, 6-0 singles win over matt Wierzel at #1 and teamed with junior John Harvey (Wethersfield, CT) for an 8-2 win over Scot Brownell and AJ Shekar at #3 doubles.
Junior Mike Syer (Oakville, Ontario) also notched a pair of wins, beating Dan Phelan at #3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, and teaming with junior Adam Gart (Bedford, MA) at #1 doubles for a 8-3 win over Wierzel and John Burke.
The other doubles win came from the team of juniors Jacob Miller (West Chesterfield, NH) and Nick Mazzerese (Stonington, CT) who beat Phelan and Chris Davis 8-3.
Junior Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) beat Burke at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) beat Tim Regan at #4 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Senior Jinal Shah (Mombasa, Kenya) won at #5 singles over Chris Das, 6-0 and 6-1 and junior Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) beat Scot Brownell at #6, 6-0, 6-1.
Both teams are back in action on February 27th when the travel to Bryant University.
