The Sacred Heart men's tennis team posted a pair of dual match wins over the weekend, blanking Hartford, 7-0, and topping Northeast Conference foe Monmouth, 6-1. The Pioneers raised their dual match record to 11-6-1 on the season running their streak to three-straight wins and four in their last five matches.
Junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) picked up two more singles wins over the weekend, running his streak to five-straight wins at #1 singles. Kasyanov beat Hartford's Aneil Bhalla, 6-1, 6-3 and came back on Sunday to best Monmouth's Laurence Heads by the same score. He is 10-3 this spring and 20-9 on the season in singles action.
Kasyanov and fellow junior Nick Mazzarese (Stonington, CT) raised their record to 5-2 in dual match doubles action with an 8-1 win at #3 over Monmouth's Ben Dashiell and Oliver Grimbley. Mazzarese won his singles match over Hartford's Eric Floum, 6-1, 6-3 on Saturday.
Junior Adam Gart (Bedford, MA) improved to 5-1 in his last six singles matches with wins over Hartford's Marco Neves, 6-0, 6-4 and Monmouth's David Sherwood, 6-1, 6-2, both in the #3 slot. Gart also earned a pair of doubles wins, teaming with senior Jinal Shah (Mombasa, Kenya) for an 8-1 win over Bhalla and Neves of Hartford and junior Mike Syer (Oakville, Ontario) for an 8-5 win over Heads and Ian Terpilowski of Monmouth, both in the #1 position.
Shah added a singles win against Hartford, 6-1, 6-3 over Edgardo Ureta at #5 to his weekend ledger. Syer finished off Monmouth's Dashiell, 6-1, 6-1 at #5 on Sunday.
Junior Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) posted two singles wins at #2 on the weekend, beating Hartford's Josh Isaacson, 6-2, 6-3, and Monmouth's Terpilowski, 6-3, 1-0 after dropping the first set 6-4. He and junior Jacob Miller (West Chesterfield, NH) won at #2 doubles over Hartford's Isaacson and Floum, 8-2 on Saturday.
Junior Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Aaron Kooden of Hartford at #6 and teamed with junior John Harvey (Wethersfield, CT) for an 8-4 win in the #3 doubles spot. Sophomore Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) notched the Pioneers other singles win against Monmouth, beating Oliver Grimbly, 6-1, 6-1 at #6.
The Pioneers are back in action on at Fairleigh Dickinson on April 1st.
