The Sacred Heart men's tennis team won their fourth-straight dual match on Thursday, beating Fairleigh Dickinson 5-2 in a Northeast Conference match-up. The Pioneers improved to 12-6-1 overall and 3-0 against the NEC this season.
Junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) improved to 21-9 overall with his sixth-straight win at #1 singles beating Dominic Hemy 6-4, 6-2. Kasyanov and fellow junior Nick Mazzarese (Stongington, CT) won their sixth-straight doubles match together, beating Andrew Denny and Goren Guy Eliav at #3, 8-6. The duo are 7-8 overall but 6-2 in dual match action.
Mazzarese picked up a singles win as well, winning at #4 over Yuri Gricheno, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Junior Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) won his third-straight, taking his #2 singles match over Sven Sjoerds, 6-3, 6-4 followed by junior Adam Gart (Bedford, MA) beating Peter Skvarka, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at #3. Sophomore Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) gave SHU a 5-1 advantage in singles action with his 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 win over Eliav at #6.
Gart ran his singles record to 17-7 on the year, 10-3 at #3 singles, winning his fourth-straight and sixth of his last seven matches. Mazzarese improved to 13-10 overall while Sullo improved to 14-10 after his third-straight win.
The Knights won the doubles point winning the #1 and #2 matches. Their only other win came at #5 singles with Ted Segerfors beating Michael Syer (Oakville, Ontario) 6-7, 6-2, 1-0.
The Pioneers will play host to the Hofstra Pride on April 8th at 1:30 pm.
