Pioneer Tennis Splits Dual Matches at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Sacred Heart men and women's tennis teams split a pair of dual matches Sunday afternoon, beating Saint Peter's College and falling to Stony Brook. The SHU men beat Saint Peter's, 3-2 and the women won 4-1 while both teams fell to the Seawolves, 5-0.
On the women's side, the Pioneers took three of the four singles matches against the Peahens and won the doubles point be default. Freshman Rebecca McMullin (Brighton Victoria, Australia) won at #1 singles, 6-0 and 6-2. Senior Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) won her #3 singles match, 6-0, 6-2 over Andrea Collomb and sophomore Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) won at #4, 6-2, 6-0, over Jessica Nowogrodzki.
Junior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) lost a battle at #2 singles, falling to Joniesa Williams , 7-6 (5), 4-6, 11-9.
For the men, juniors Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) and Adam Gart (Bedford, MA) picked up singles wins and SHU claimed the doubles point by default to beat the Peacocks. Ujick won at #1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over JJ Gramatica. Gart posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tony Wilkey at #2 singles. Junior Michael Syer (Oakville, ON) lost a hard fought match at #4 to Alex Frakes, 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.
The SHU men are back in action this weekend taking part in the Quinnipiac Invitational while the women return to action on October 14th taking on the UConn Huskies.
