SHU's Kasyanov Named NEC Tennis Player of the Week

Oct. 13, 2009

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 13, 2009) - Sacred Heart junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) was named the Northeast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Kasyanov won three consecutive matches, the last of which came against a Northeast Conference rival, to capture the Flight A title at the Quinnipiac Invitational. The third-year Pioneer received a bye in the Round of 16 and began his championship run by notching a quarterfinal victory over Hofstra's Stian Tvedt in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Kasyanov posted a comeback win over UConn's Jai Yoon in the semifinal round, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6. Facing Quinnipiac's John Hughes in the Flight A final, Kasyanov repaid the Bobcats' top player for what transpired during the 2009 NEC Semifinals. Hughes won last April's meeting in straight sets, but Kasyanov turned the tables by winning, 6-1, 6-1, on Sunday in Hamden.
