Sacred Heart sophomore Bertony Jean-Louis (Norwalk, CT) advanced out of the preliminaries of the 110 meter hurdles at the NCAA East Regional's at North Carolina A&T University Friday afternoon. Sophomore Athalia Smith (New Britain, CT) also represented the Pioneer track & field program competing in the weight throw.
Jean-Louis clocked in at 14.19 in the second heat of the event to move on to the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. His time of 14.19 seconds marked a season-best time for the sophomore sprinter and breaks his own school record in the event. 24 runners will compete in Saturday's quarterfinal, with the top 12 moving on to the NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon in two weeks.
Smith finished 28th in a field of 46 competitors in the weight throw, registering a heave of 53.12 meters (174'3").
