Pioneers Honored in All-NEC Indoor Track and Field Awards
(Fairfield, CT) – The Northeast Conference announced All-NEC honors for Indoor Track and Field this week, and numerous Sacred Heart men's and women's athletes were honored. The first teamers are the gold medalists from the 2011 NEC Indoor Championships two weekends ago, while the second team consists of silver medalists. The NEC also announced the first ever All-Rookie Team, which is made up of the top freshman finishers in each event.
Bertony Jean-Louis was named to the Men's All-NEC First Team in the 60 Meter Hurdles, breaking both his own school record and conference record with a time of 7.98 seconds. Jeremy Rosado made the Men's All-NEC Second Team in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a second place finish behind his teammate Jean-Louis. Also on the Men's All-NEC Second team, Jeffrey Lusignan made it in the 3000 meter with a time of 8:32.09. Joining him on the second team is Chase Petrucci in Shot Put (16.98m; 55' 8.50"). Bertony Jean-Louis, Matthew Lyhne, Nicholas Arena, and Justin McLoughlin earned All-NEC Second Team honors by placing second in the 4 x 400 Meters relay. On the Men's All-NEC Rookie Team, Marc Troiani made it in Shot Put (14.89m; 48' 10.25"). Daniel Pepitone joined hin in Weight Throw (12.35m; 40' 6.25"), as did Anthony Pastore in the 60m, and Brandon Hutchinson, who was the top freshman finisher in the men's long jump.
Kimberly DeLoreto was named to the Women's All-NEC First Team in 3000m (10:07.46) and the Women's All-NEC Second Team in 5000m (17:18.65). Joining DeLoreto on the Women's All-Second Team, Carol Cress made it Shot Put (13.97m; 45' 10"), along with Athalia Smith in Weight Throw (17.95m; 58' 10.75") Joselyn Henry made the Women's All-Rookie team in Long Jump (5.23m;17' 2").
