Bertony Jean-Louis Qualfies for NCAA Championship in the 60 M Hurdles
FAIRFIELD, CT (March 6, 2012) - Sacred Heart senior Bertony Jean-Louis (Norwalk, CT) will be heading to Nampa, Idaho this weekend for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships after learning he will be the second Pioneer in program history to qualify for the championship meet. Jean-Louis will run in the 60 meter hurdles at the event being held at Boise State on March 9th through 10th.
Jean-Louis was the 2012 Northeast Conference, New England and IC4A Champion in the event. This past weekend at the IC4A event, he broke his own school record and the facility record he set a year ago in winning the event at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. Jean-Louis ran a 7.76 second time in the semi-finals then went on to win the event for the second-straight year with a time of 7.83 seconds.
He came into the final indoor competition of the season ranked 15th in the country at 7.85 seconds. His 7.76 clocking moved him up into 12th place on the NCAA Division I list.
This will be the fourth trip to a NCAA Division I Championship for the Sacred Heart men's program. Former Pioneer Arman Dixon competed in the NCAA's indoors in 2007 and 2008, and outdoors in 2007 and 2008. Dixon earned All-American honors in the 200 meters in indoor track in 2007, and All-American honors in the 400 meters at the 2008 outdoor championship.
The schedule of events will be released on NCAA.com. ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 9 from 7:30-11:45 p.m. ET and March 10 from 8-11:15 p.m. ET. A tape delay of the championship will air Sunday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU. NCAA.com and broncosports.com will stream what ESPN3 is not covering on Friday (Noon-7:30 p.m. ET) and Saturday (12:30-8 pm ET).
