(Fairfield, CT) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named both the Men's and Women's Track and Field teams at Sacred Heart to the 2012 Division I Track & Field All-Academic teams, as well as four individuals from the men's team to the 2012 Division I All-Academic team.
The SHU women's team is one of 171 teams in the NCAA to make the women's list, posting a cumulative 3.20 GPA. The SHU men's team is one of 85 teams to make the men's list, posting a cumulative 3.04 GPA. To make the list, a team must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better.
Bertony Jean-Louis, Jeffrey Lusignan, Andrew Houghtalen, and Matthew Lyhne all were among the 431 student athletes named to the men's 2012 Division I All-Academic team. Jean-Louis was ranked 14th in the nation in the 60 meter hurdles this indoor season and was selected to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championship in that event. He also was an NCAA Regional participant outdoors in the 110 meter hurdles, meeting the criteria to make the list in both events. Lusignan, Houghtalen and Lyhne qualify for the award as members of our school record setting distance medley relay team, which ranked in the top 48 in the country this indoor season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
