NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's track and field team opened its outdoor spring season on Saturday with a second-place finish at the CCSU Invitational.
The Pioneers won three field events on Saturday. Marc Troiani won both the shot put (54'4.5") and discus (146'10") throws. Sacred Heart had the top-four throws in the shot put event. Philip Miccio finished second in the hammer throw with a throw of 165'10" and Scott Sheehan was second in the javelin with a throw of 191'9". Brandon Hutchinson won the triple jump with a leap of 44'6.75". Thomas Ford was second in the high jump by clearing 6'0.75". Drayke Jackson finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20'11.25".
On the track, Warner Cooley had a pair of top-four finishes. He placed second in the 200m (23.13) and fourth in the 400m (51.81). Hutchinson was second in the 100m (11.37).
The Pioneers finished the meet with 175 points, 57 behind CCSU for the team title.
