Men’s Track Finishes Third At Rider Invitational
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Marc Troiani won the shot put Saturday at the Rider University Invitational as the Sacred Heart men's track and field had 10 top-five finshes on the day to finish third in the team standings.
Troiani took first place in the shot put with a throw of 54'2", winning the event by over two feet. He was also third in the discus with a throw of 149'4". Philip Miccio was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 47'5.75", and was also fourth in the hammer throw with a throw of 165'7". Daniel Pepitone finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 167'2". Brandon Hutchinson also had a second-place finish, as his leap of 22'7.75" put him second in the long jump.
Scott Polis took fifth in the pole vault by clearing 14'9". Brian Kalafut led a trio of Pioneers that scored in the javelin with a fifth-place finish, throwing the javelin 162'1". Patrick DiIorio and Mario Prassas each had thows of 156 feet to finish seventh and eighth respectively. The Pioneers' 4x400 relay had one of Sacred Heart's top finishes on the track. Warner Cooley, Jordan Dudley, Ralph Gangi, and Gregory Hazell ran a time of 3:26.21 to finish fourth. Robert Challenor also had a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:46.69. The 4x100 relay of Hutchinson, Cooley, Chanse Wilkie, and Joshua Beloff ran to a sixth place finish in 42.62 seconds. Wilkie also placed eighth in the 200 meters in 22.59 seconds.
The Pioneers finished the meet with 72 points, 5.5 points behind second-place Lafayette. Rider won the meet with 150.5 points.
The Sacred Heart track and field team will compete in four different meets next week, beginning with the Holy Cross College Decathlon April 16-17.
