New Haven, Conn.- The Sacred Heart men's track and field team were in action on Saturday at the 2018 Yale Collegiate Invitational hosted at Coxe Cage.
Trevor Guerrera opened in the 1000 meters, easily taking the victory by almost 8 seconds. His time of 2:24.92 is not only below the New England standard, but also well below the IC4A standard of 2:28.50. Later in the day, Guerrera came back to run the fastest leg on the 2nd place 4x400 team. The senior split 49.0 seconds and the team finished in 3:23.37, the fastest time for SHU this season. Guerrera currently ranks 1st in the NEC in the mile and the 3000 meters.
Michael Kearns won the men's shot put with a New England mark of 49-11.75 ft. (15.23 meters). The senior also took 2nd in the weight throw with a new season best throw of 48-4.5 ft. (14.74m). Kearns ranks 1st in the shot put in the NEC, and moves into 4th in the weigh throw rankings.
Seniors Sebastian Pierre and Brenden Twumasi-Ankrah took 1st and 2nd in the men's 500 meters. Pierre crossed the line in 1:06.73 and Twumasi-Ankrah in 1:07.02, a personal best. The duo currently ranks 5th and 6th in the NEC in the event.
The Pioneers are back in action Thursday Jan. 18 at the Quadrangular Meet with Boston University, Boston College and UMass Lowell @ Boston University, MA at 5 pm
