SHU Compete At ECAC/ICAAAA Championships

Boston, MA,- The Sacred Heart University men's and women's track & field teams were in action at the ECAC/ICAAAA Championships this weekend.

Michael Kearns had his best showing in the shot put, finishing out this indoor season with the second best mark of his career. His mark of 15.91m landed him 16th overall.

Two school records went down at this weekend's ECAC/IC4A Championships. Graduate student Hannah Chamblin crushed her own school record previously set this indoor season in the 800 meters, crossing the line in a time of 2:09.87 to record the fastest time in school history. Chamblin's performance was good for 10th in the trials, narrowly missing Day 2 by less than 3/10's of a second.

Senior Selina Sampieri set a new personal best to break her own school record as well. She cleared 3.70m, a new indoor record that matches her outdoor personal best and landed her in a tie for 7th overall. Finishing in the top 8 earns Sampieri "All-East" in her final indoor championship.

Kate Svensen set a notable personal best, running under 17 minutes for the first time in the 5000 meters. The 2017 NEC Cross Country Champion and Indoor 5k/3k champion ran a time of 16:55.89, the fastest in the conference this season.

In the weight throw, graduate student Akuadasuo Ezenyilimba earned herself All-East honors in her final collegiate indoor meet, throwing 18.03 meters for 5th place. Teammate Jenna Rothermel set a new personal best in the event, just missing All-East honors as her best mark of the day, 17.48m, was good for 9th overall.

The Pioneers are back in action Friday March 9th at the NCAA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships at Texas A&M University College Station, TX.
