Freshman Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is off to a fast start in his collegiate career, taking home his first EIVA Hay Player of the Week award after just three matches. Mackenzie paced in at times dominant SHU offense as the men's volleyball team posted a 1-1 record last week. The squad's one loss came in a 3-2 nail biter to nationally ranked #12 Ball State on a night that Mackenzie scorched a match high 23 kills.
Mackenzie and the Pioneers knocked off IPFW 3-1 to start the weekend Friday night. The freshman outside hitter also led all attackers in that match with 16 kills and a .433 hitting percentage. Mackenzie slammed home match point in front of 362 fans in the Pitt Center at the squad's home opener as SHU picked up its first win of the 2011 season.
For the weekend Mackenzie averaged 4.33 kills per set and swung at a .392 clip while adding 11 digs on the defensive side of the net. The men's volleyball team returns to action this weekend with a road game at New Haven Friday night before returning home Saturday afternoon for a clash with NYU.
