Freshman Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was impressive all weekend with 45 kills in a pair of victories for the Pioneer men's volleyball team. For his efforts Mackenzie earned a pair of awards, claiming EIVA Hay division player of the week honors as well as Enterprise Rent-A-Car/SHU student-athlete of the week accolades. This is the third time in 2011 that Mackenzie has garnered the EIVA Hay division player of the week award. Sacred Heart defeated both Harvard and Rutgers-Newark, 3-1, in their final two home games of 2011.
The 6-4 outside hitter hammered home a match high 26 kills against Harvard while posting an even more impressive .622 hitting percentage in the critical conference victory for Sacred Heart. Mackenzie followed that performance with 19 kills in the Pioneers triumph on senior day over Rutgers-Newark. The Brazil native was also solid along the back line, tallying 14 digs and successfully receiving 59 serves. Mackenzie averaged 5.62 kills per set over the two matches and 6.2 points per game.
The SHU men's volleyball team will need to win its final two conference games of the season to secure a spot in the EIVA tournament for the second straight season.
