Banner Elk, NC - The SHU men's volleyball team was defeated Tuesday night at Lees-McRae, 3-0. Nick Hunt (Uniondale, NY) paced the attack with 14 kills while libero Adrian Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) recorded nine digs. The Pioneers struggled on offense, tallying 31 errors and posting a -.022 hitting percentage.
Sacred Heart (4-14) Grabbed its first lead of the match at 6-5 following a kill from Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). However, the Bobcats rattled off four straight points to regain momentum, and the lead, 10-6. The home team made just one attacking error in the opening set en route to a 25-18 triumph.
Lees-McRae (7-6) took control of the second set early, jumping out to an 11-5 advantage. Matt Harpenau finished the night with seven kills, six block assists, and a .636 hitting percentage for the Bobcats. SHU was forced into 12 hitting miscues in the game as Lees-McRae claimed the second set, 25-15.
The Pioneers were unable to turn things around in the fourth set and eventually fell by an identical 25-15 margin.
Sacred Heart remains on the road and returns to action tomorrow night against Limestone
