Saint Francis (PA) Blanks Pioneers, 3-0

Loretto, PA – The SHU men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of EIVA foe Saint Francis (PA) Thursday night.  The Red Flash offense posted a red-hot .410 hitting percentage and made just eight attack errors in the match.  Sophomore Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) paced the Pioneer attack with ten kills.

Saint Francis (PA) (12-13, 7-5 EIVA) finished the opening set with a 9-3 spurt and used the surge to take the first game 25-17.  Logan Patterson supplied set point with one of the squad's two service aces of the night.  Alex Kane powered the SFU offense and finished the match with 11 kills while swinging at a .667 clip.

Sacred Heart (5-19, 2-10) traded points with the Red Flash early in the second set at Bradley Borsay (Richmond, RI) hammered down two of his seven total kills.  Saint Francis (PA) maintained control of the second set with a perfect side-out percentage until the Red Flash earned a 21-13 edge.  SHU fought off three set points but a service error gave the home team the second frame, 25-19.

The Pioneers fought an uphill battle in the third set after falling behind, 7-3.  However, Sacred Heart continued to hang around and never trailed by more than four points.  Mike Komlanc (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) and Mackenzie registered back-to-back kills to pull SHU within one at 23-22.  Saint Francis (PA) would convert on each of its next two receiving attempts and secured the final set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.

Sacred Heart will look to bounce back tomorrow night as they travel to State College, PA for match-up with #7 Penn State.
