HARTSVILLE, S.C. (March 2, 2014)—The Sacred Heart men's volleyball team won a pair of matches Sunday at the Coker Tournament in Hartsville, S.C. After topping the hosting Cobras 3-1 to open the day, the Pioneers swept Pfeiffer. The Pioneers head home with a 7-10 season record.
Enzo Mackenzie (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) led the match against Coker with 13 kills. Christopher Delucie (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was right behind him with 11. The Pioneers and Cobras battled through the first set with the score tying 13 times. Up 23-21, SHU rallied behind kills from Raymond Satagaj (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Austin Arcala (Long Beach, Calif.) to take the set 25-21.
Sacred Heart dominated the second set and won 25-15 before pushing set three to extra points. With the Pioneers once again up 23-21, the Cobras rallied to take a 24-23 lead. The teams traded points with the Pioneers taking the set with consecutive kills from Delucie and Mackenzie. Sacred Heart won the match taking the fourth and final set 25-20.
Delucie led the day's second match with 12 kills, while senior Brad Borsay (Richmond, R.I.) hit .727 recording eight of his 11 attacks for kills without a single error.
The Pioneers won the first set 25-21. The second set went into extra points. After Pfeiffer led for most of the set, Sacred Heart worked its way back to tie the game at 22. The Falcons took the next two points before a four-point Pioneer run gave SHU the 26-24 win. Sacred Heart completed the sweep with a 25-22 win in set three.
