  • Department of Athletics Celebrates Career Achievements Of Class of 2017

    Ellen Nighbor of the women’s golf team and Justin Danforth of the men’s ice hockey received the top honors of the Pioneer Award
  • Joshua Ayzenberg Selected As 2017 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention

    Joshua Ayzenberg (Long Beach, N.Y.) was selected as a 2017 AVCA Men’s Division I-II All–America Honorable Mention. The junior libero lead the EIVA in digs per set, averaging 2.92, which landed him second in the NCAA. Ayzenberg recorded 13 double-digit games in digs, as he finished the year with 251 total digs, besting the previous year by 32. Among one of the Pioneers most successful seasons in program history, Ayzenberg led SHU past #13 Penn State on Feb. 18th, as he recorded 22 digs. He also received EIVA All-Academic honors for the second consecutive season.
  • Pioneers Drop EIVA Semi-Finals In Four Sets

    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team hit the road to compete in the 2017 EIVA tournament, taking on the Red Flash of Saint Francis U in the semi finals. The Pioneers would drop the match 3-1, to end their season in the EIVA semi-finals. Christoper DeLucie would lead the Pioneers in kills adding 10. The Red Flash will take on the winners of the Penn State vs. Princeton game tonight.
  • Three Pioneers On EIVA All-Academic Team

    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team has had quite the year on the court, but has also excelled off the court with three Pioneers earning a spot on the 2017 EIVA All-Academic team. Sacred Heart holds the most athletes on the list of All-Academic athletes in the EIVA. Senior Christopher DeLucie, Junior Joshua Ayzenberg, and Sophomore Emerson Waumans were among the nine athletes in the EIVA to make the list.
  • Pioneers Earn EIVA Honors

    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball had three athletes selected to the 2017 All-EIVA teams, as well as Head Coach Greg Walker was named the Bob Sweeney EIVA Coach of the Year. Junior Joshua Ayzenberg, and Senior Christopher DeLucie were selected to the 2017 All-EIVA First Team, after posting standout performances this season. Senior Eduardo Zardo, who is the primary setter for the Pioneers, was selected to the 2017 All-EIVA Second Team. The Pioneers look to take on Saint Francis U, this Thursday at 5:00pm, in the semi-finals of the EIVA tournament, at tournament host, Penn State.
  • Bloomquist Blocks His Way To EIVA Defensive Play of the Week

    For the second time this season, Taylor Bloomquist was selected as the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week. Bloomquist helped lead the Pioneers to their first EIVA tournament since 2010, after posting 14 total blocks in a pair of must win games for the Pioneers. Bloomquist currently leads the EIVA in blocks per set, with 1.20, and sits 5th in the NCAA. The Pioneers start their road to the EIVA Championship, Thursday the 20th at 5:00pm as they enter as the #3 seed, taking on the Red Flash of Saint Francis (PA) in the opening round.
  • SHU Men's Volleyball Sweeps Princeton To Secure Bid To EIVA Tournament

    The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team pulled off the regular season finale with a sweep over the Princeton Tigers, to secure a spot in the EIVA playoffs for the first time since 2010. The Pioneers entered the game in a three way tie for the final spot of the playoffs, with a must win game. Taylor Bloomquist led the way with 8 total blocks, and 8 kills on the day to end the night with a .636 hitting percentage. SHU enters the EIVA tournament as the #3 seed, and look to take on Saint Francis U in the opening round.
  • Pioneers Keep Post-Season Hopes Alive, With 3-1 Win

    The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team kept their playoffs dreams alive, as they picked up a 3-1 win over the Highlanders of NJIT. SHU was led by Emerson Waumans who tallied an impressive 18 kills, of his 27 attempts, to finish the night with a .519 kill percentage. The Pioneers play their final game of the regular season tomorrow, as they take on the Princeton.
  • Eduardo Zardo Named EIVA Offensive Player Of the Week After Big Weekend

    Eduardo Zardo was selected as the EIVA Offensive Player of the week after a stellar performance over the weekend. Zardo dished out 35 assists over #12 Penn State in the 3-0 sweep over the Nittany Lions, and finished the weekend with 69 total assists. The Pioneer finish off the EIVA regular season against NJIT, and Princeton this weekend in hopes to make the post season.
  • SHU Falls In Four Sets, In Final Home Game

    The Sacred Heart Pioneers drop an EIVA contest against the Red Flash of Saint Francis U. Emerson Waumans led the pack with 12 kills, as he only appeared in three of the four sets. The Pioneers are back in action next week as they take on the NJIT Highlander on the 14th.
  • Greg Walker Named AVCA 30 Under 30 Honoree
    April 07, 2017
    Sacred Heart University head men’s volleyball coach Greg Walker was named an AVCA 2017 30 under 30 honoree. The award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. Walker, 29, was selected from among 200 nominees.
  • Get Your Brooms Out, As SHU Sweeps #12 Penn State 3-0

    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team took on the #12 Penn State Nittany Lions at the Williams H. Pitt Center and went on to sweep them 3-0. Doug Dzema led the charge as he put up an incredible seven blocks. The Pioneers continue the push to the postseason, as they take on the Red Flash of Saint Francis U, tomorrow night at 7pm for senior night.
  • Pioneers Come Up Short Against George Mason

    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team dropped an EIVA match to George Mason 3-1 Friday night. The Pioneers were led by Michael Comens who tallied 11 kills on the night. Doug Dzema finished the night hitting .500, while adding 10 kills on the night. SHU is back in action tonight as they take on George Mason again.
  • Pioneers Lose Heart Breaker In Five Sets
    April 01, 2017
    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball lost a heart breaker to the Patriots of George Mason in a five set match. The Pioneers opened up taking the opening set, but the Patriots rallied to take the second, third, and fifth set to defeat the Pioneers. SHU is now 5-5 in the EIVA, and look to get back on track as they are back in the Pitt Center this week taking on Penn State on Friday, and Senior Day against St. Francis U on Saturday.
  • Pioneers Fall 3-0 To Harvard

    The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team took the crimson of Harvard at Malkin Center in Cambridge, Mass. The Pioneers fell 3-0, as they now sit 12-7 on the season, and 5-3 in the EIVA. SHU was led by Christopher DeLucie who tallied 13 kills on the day. The Pioneers are back in action as they take on George Mason in a double header next weekend.
  • Pioneers End West Coast In Five Set Thriller With USC
    March 17, 2017
    The Sacred Heart mens volleyball team ended up their west coast trip going 0-3 among the top teams in the nation. The Pioneers took on #1 Long Beach State, #6 UCLA, and finished the trip against USC. The Pioneers brought USC into the final set, but couldn’t get the job done losing in a five set thriller. The Pioneers will stay on the road as they get back into EIVA play, taking on Harvard this Friday.
  • Michael Comens Earns EIVA Offensive Player of the Week

    Michael Comens earned the first EIVA Offensive Player of the Week award for the 2017 season after picking up 19 kills against Harvard this weekend. The Pioneers currently sit in a three way tie for first place in the EIVA with a 5-2 record. This is the Pioneers fourth weekly award this season. SHU heads to the west coast to test their skills among the best colleges in the country this weekend.
  • Dont Call It A Comeback... Pioneers Hand Harvard A 3-2 Loss

    The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team hosted the Crimson of Harvard in an EIVA showdown, as the Pioneers took down the Crimson 3-2. Despite dropping the opening two sets, Sacred Heart would rattle off three straight sets to takedown Harvard and advance to 5-2 in the EIVA. The Pioneers hit the west coast for a tough road trip till they come back for more conference play.
  • Doug Dzema Claims EIVA Defensive Player Of The Week

    The Pioneers have made made a splash in the EIVA thus far this season. The Pioneers currently sit in 2nd place with a 4-2 record in the EIVA. This past weekend Doug Dzema led the Pioneers to a 1-1 record, and helped take down 3rd ranked Princeton in four sets, and claim his first EIVA award this season as Defensive Player Of The Week. The Pioneers are back at home this Friday as they take on Harvard at 7:00pm!
  • Pioneers Hand Princeton A 3-1 L

    The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team took down the top ranked Princeton 3-1. The Pioneers hit a minor speed bump, dropping the opening set, but regrouped to rattle off three straight sets and dethrone the Tigers. The Pioneers now improve to 4-2 in the EIVA and as they prepare for Harvard next weekend in the Pitt Center, March 3rd.
  • Pioneers Fall 3-1 to NJIT

    The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team took on the NJIT Highlanders in an EIVA contest that ended the with Highlanders on top 3-1. The Pioneers were led by Bobby Costigan who hit .833 (5-6). The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow as they take on Princeton at 4:00pm.
  • Pioneers Welcome Nittany Lions to Upset City

    The Sacred Heart Men’s Volleyball team headed to #13 ranked Penn State for an EIVA competition. The Pioneers took down the Nittany Lions in four set. The Pioneers rattled off three set to win the match 3-1. The Pioneers are back at home as they take on NJIT the 24th, at 7:00pm.
  • Pioneers Fall Short 3-1 To Saint Francis U

    Loretto, PA, - The Pioneers were handed their first EIVA loss of the season as they fell 3-1 to the Red Flash of Saint Francis U. The Pioneers were led by Chris DeLucie who tallied 17 kills, and ended the night with 18.5 points for SHU. The Pioneers take on #14 Penn State tomorrow night.
  • Taylor Bloomquist Blocks His Way To EIVA Defensive Player of the Week

    After helping the Pioneers to a 2-0 start in the EIVA, sophomore Taylor Bloomquist has been named the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second time in a row the Pioneers have recieved this honor. The Pioneers are on the road this weekend as they look to take on the Red Flash of Saint Francis, and the #14 Nittany Lions of Penn State.
  • Pioneers Sweep Golden Eagles Second Night In A Row

    Fairfield, CT- The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in EIVA play as they sweep the Golden Eagles of Charleston for the second night in a row. The Pioneers were lead by Emerson Waumans who finished the night with 11 kills. The Pioneers hit the road for a pair of games next weekend as they take on St. Francis U, and Penn State.
  • Josh Ayzenberg Selected As EIVA Defensive Player of the Week

    Junior Josh Ayzenberg was selected as EIVA Men?s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Pioneers to a 4-0 weekend. Ayzenberg becomes the first Pioneers to be selected for a weekly award for the 2017 season.

    Fairfield, CT.- The Sacred Heart men’s volleyball team continues to roll as they took out Lincoln Memorial 3-1. The Pioneers were lead by Bobby Costigan who tallied nine kills on the day. Doug Dzema continues to show his dominance, and precision as he registered seven kills, and ended with a hitting percentage of .778%. The Pioneers start conference play as they take on Charleston (W.V.) Friday the 10th at 7:00pm.

    Fairfield, CT.- The Sacred Heart mens volleyball team improved to 6-1 on the season as they took out Lincoln Memorial is dominating fashion. The Pioneers were led by Emerson Waumans with 12 kills. The Pioneers are back in action as they take on the Rail Splitters again tomorrow at 1:00pm.

    Fairfield, CT.- The Sacred Heart mens volleyball team improved to 5-1 as they swept the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus for the second straight night. The men’s volleyball team is back at home for the next two games as they take on Lincoln Memorial at 7:00.

    Fairfield, CT.- The Sacred Heart Pioneers improved to 4-1 on the season after sweeping the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus. The Pioneers were led by Christopher DeLucie who tallied 15 kills in the win. The Pioneers are back at home to take on the Battlers again tomorrow at 7:00pm.
