Wrestling Opens 2011-12 Campaign with Busy Weekend in Binghamton

Binghamton, NY – The Sacred Heart wrestling team wrapped up the first weekend of the 2011-12 season that featured a dual meet with Binghamton as well as competition at the Binghamton Open.  SHU fell to the Bearcats, 39-13, on Saturday before four Pioneers earned a victory in the competitive BU Open.

Andrew Polidore (Wayne, NJ) started the weekend with a 10-2 major decision over Binghamton's Patrick Hunter.  Polidore got knocked out of the BU Open with a tight 4-2 overtime loss to Vinny Fava of Rider.  Heavyweight T.J. Neidhart (Wading River, NY) picked up three points for SHU with a 7-2 decision over Mike McKeever.  Neidhart would again meet up with McKeever at the Binghamton Open and made it back-to-back wins with a 6-2 triumph.  An injury forfeit rounded out the SHU scoring but the Bearcats ultimately came out on top, 39-13.

Zachary Moran (Columbia, CT) earned a 4-2 win over George Mason's Ryan Hembury at 184 pounds.  Sam Morrison scored SHU's only pin of the weekend, downing Kris Rahn of Gannon in 4:01.  Senior Justin Belanger (West Greenwich, RI) secured a 5-4 verdict over Andrew Gonzalez of Cornell in the 149 pound weight class.

The Pioneer wrestlers return to action November 26 at the Northeast Duals in Albany, NY for tilts against Army and Eastern Michigan.
