Fairfield, CT – The SHU wrestling team fell to the Brown Bears, 41-0, Friday afternoon inside the William H. Pitt Center. Two seniors, Jonathan Rizzitello (Paramus, NJ) and Justin Belanger (West Greenwich, RI), competed in the final home match of their careers.
Brown (3-5, 2-1 EIWA) took control of the match early, winning two of the first three bouts by technical fall and the third via a major decision. Belanger would be unable to pick up a victory as Rickey Bailey held off the SHU senior in a 7-4 decision. Dave Foxen clinched the match for the Bears as he pinned Rizzitello at the 4:15 mark of what had be a tightly contested match-up.
Sacred Heart (0-13) nearly got on the board at the 197 pound weight class but a late surge allowed BU's Ricky McDonald to complete a comeback decision win over Sam Morison (Conshohocken, PA). The Bears rounded out the score line at 41-0 with a pinfall victory by Marcos Aranda in the heavyweight class.
The Pioneer wrestling team returns to action February 4 for dual meets against both Rider and Franklin & Marshall.
