SHU Wrestling Wraps Up 2011-12 Season at EIWA Championships
Princeton, NJ - Junior Zachary Moran (Columbia, CT) won a pair of bouts and finished in eighth place at the 2012 EIWA Championships. The Pioneers finished in 14th place while Cornell claimed the conference championship by a slim margin over second place Lehigh.
Moran started the tournament with a loss to the sixth seed at 184 pounds, Cameron Croy of Harvard, but went on to do damage in the consolation bracket. He picked up SHU's first points of the event with a 3-2 triumph over Jamie Westwood of Bucknell.
Moran pulled a huge upset over the fifth seed Dan Seidenberg of Rutgers as the junior pinned his man at the 3:08 mark. Moran was unable to reach the consolation finals, running into the road block of Erich Smith from Pennsylvania who would finish third in the division. Moran finished in eighth place after being unable to compete in the seventh place due to injury.
Senior Jonathan Rizzitello (Paramus, NJ) competed in his final collegiate tournament over the weekend. He gave the eighth seed at 174 pounds, Ian Korb of Penn, a tough match but Rizzitello would fall 4-0. Fellow senior Justin Belanger (West Greenwich, RI) suffered a 3-1 setback in the consolation bracket to Ryan Bilyeu of Army.
The Pioneers will return eight of their ten starters as they look ahead to the 2012-13 season.
