(Boston, MA) – The Sacred Heart Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston Saturday afternoon, with Kim DeLoreto (Hillsdale, NJ) earning "All-New England" honors for the third time in her career.
Pioneers Run in New England Championships, DeLoreto Earns All-New England Again
DeLoreto finished 22nd overall out of 322 runners with a time of 18:16. Of the eight runners in Sacred Heart history to be named "All-New England", which is awarded to the top 30 runners, DeLoreto is the only athlete to do it more than once.
The Pioneer Women's Cross Country team took 18thplace of the 47 schools competing with a score of 483, averaging a time of 19:11 thanks to strong races by Brittney Lane (Greenwich, NY) and Brittany Llobell (West Sayville, NY) as well. Lane ran her personal best at 18:59, while Llobell ran a time of 19:11.
The Sacred Heart Men's Cross Country team placed four runners in the top 100 for the first time ever. The Pioneers finished 19th out of the 47-team race with a score of 455, as Jeffrey Lusignan (East Montpelier, VT) lead the way with a time of 25:54. There was only a ten-second spread on the top four runners for the SHU men's team, with Richard Marcello (Foster, RI - 25:59), Brendan Rickert (Danbury, CT - 26:00), and Daniel Koehler (Red Hook, NY - 26:04) nearly keeping pace with Lusignan. Rickert set a personal best with his time.
Colin Seidl (Cochecton, NY) placed 11th in the Men's JV race, setting a personal best with a time of 26:24 as the SHU men's fifth fastest finish of the day.
