SHU Men Run Fourth at Northeast Conference Championship

2012 Northeast Conference Championship Results

SMITHFIELD, RI (October 27, 2012) - The Sacred Heart men's cross country team finished fourth at the 2012 Northeast Conference Championships held Saturday afternoon at Bryan University in Smithfield, RI.  The Pioneers had a pair of runners garner All-NEC accolades in this year's race.

The Central Connecticut State Blue Devils won their fourth-straight NEC title, besting the field with 72 points.  The Monmouth Hawks and Quinnipiac Bobcats were right on CCSU's heels with 78 and 79 points, respectively.  The Pioneers ran in fourth with 109 total points.

SHU senior Christopher Connelly (Medford, NY) and freshman Sean Ferguson (Smithtown, NY) were named to the All-NEC team thanks to their top-14 finishes on the 8K Bryant course.

Connelly ran in third place finishing the race in a time of 25:11.32, just shy of eight seconds off race winner Colby Delbene of CCSU.  Ferguson, running in his first ever conference title race, took home 13th place with a time of 25:54.88.

SHU junior Patrick Peterson (Gloversville, NY) earned a top-20 finish, clocking in at 26:09.98, good for 18th overall. 

Rounding out the Pioneers top-seven was Aleksandr Morin (Durham, CT) in 36th (26:46.52), grad student Ricard Marcello (Foster, RI) in 39th (26:53.28), senior Justin Britton (Bay Shore, NY) in 53rd (27:19.24) and junior Colin Seidl (Cochecton, NY) in 55th (27:23.52).

The Pioneers will next run at the NCAA Northeast Regional on November 9th at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, CT.
