Pioneer women’s basketball coach Ed Swanson rounded out his 2010-11 staff with the announcement of Jenna McLaughlin as the program’s new graduate assistant coach. McLaughlin comes to Sacred Heart having just wrapped up her playing career at Molloy College, winning two conference championships in her three seasons. She will be responsible for film exchange and study hall coordination while also assisting with travel, equipment, academic coordination, recruiting, and on court coaching.
“We are excited to have Jenna as part of our staff for this season,” said head coach Ed Swanson. “She comes from a quality program at Molloy, under the tutelage of a terrific head coach in Tim O’Hagan.”
McLaughlin will pursue a master’s degree in education during her time at Sacred Heart. Before arriving to Fairfield, CT McLaughlin attended Loyola College for two years before transferring to Molloy. In 2009 she graduated from Molloy with a bachelor’s degree in history along with a minor in economic, having been named to the dean’s list every semester. She was captain of the 2010 Molloy squad that reached the regional semifinals in last year’s division II NCAA tournament, knocking off Pace 52-36 in the first round.
The two East Coast Conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances during McLaughlin’s tenure are the only two in Molloy’s history, including the program’s lone regular season crown in 2007-08. In her final season of collegiate basketball McLaughlin filled out her stat line averaging 4.3 points, 2.1 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game.
“Jenna will be an asset to the program with her knowledge and experiences having recently finished her playing career, I think she will make an outstanding young coach,” commented Swanson.
