SHU Women's Basketball Stays Active In The Community

This past week the Pioneers took a break from their preparation for the 2010-11 campaign to lend a hand and support the local community.  The women's basketball team represented Sacred Heart athletics at the Sherwood Island Breast Cancer walk as well as volunteering at a soup kitchen in Bridgeport.

Sunday morning the entire Pioneer roster traveled to Westport, CT to help in the community-wide "Paint the Town Pink" campaign.  Beginning at 11:00 am the team walked the 5K course as part of the Sherwood Island Breast Cancer Walk.  The team raised over $1,000 in an effort to raise awareness during national breast cancer month, emphasizing the importance of screening and early detection.

On Friday, captains Alisa Apo (Freehold, NJ), Maggie Cosgrove (Andover, MA), and Maureen Reilly (Cherry Hill, NJ) served breakfast and prepared lunch at a Bridgeport soup kitchen.
