The SHU women's basketball team rounds out the early signing period with the addition of Hannah Kimmel (Harpursville, NY) to next year's incoming class. Kimmel, who has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Sacred Heart, averaged over 29 points per game last season to guide her team to a second consecutive conference championship. Entering her senior year in 2010-11 Kimmel already has 1,925 career points to go along with back-to-back conference MVP selections.
"Hannah is a versatile player-who can go inside and out," said Pioneer head coach Ed Swanson. "She is high energy player who will compete on every play. We love her toughness and work ethic. Our staff believes she can have an immediate impact on our program."
Kimmel shot at a 47 percent clip from the floor last year, including 37 percent from three-point range. The New York native is also strong on the glass, averaging a shade under ten rebounds per game. In each of the last two seasons Kimmel was also named to the all-state first team while being named her team's MVP every year since she was a freshman. In three straight seasons she earned first team All-MAC, All-Metro, WCDO Outstanding Offense, and WCDO Dynamic Defense accolades.
Kimmel has also excelled in the classroom during her high school career. She has found her way onto the Principal's list every semester since 2007, the year in which she also became a member of the National Honor Society. Kimmel also was an all-state field hockey player back in her freshman campaign of 2007-08. Kimmel's AAU Basketball team won the under 16 division of the 2010 Penn State Tournament earlier this season.
Kimmel will join Gabrielle Washington and Katie Shepard, who have already signed NLI's, as the Pioneer women's basketball incoming class for the 2011-12 season.
