Senior Maggie Cosgrove (Andover, MA) earned her first Choice Hotels/NEC player of the week award this season as the SHU women's basketball team picked up two big wins in league play over the weekend. The senior guard supplied go-ahead trifectas with under a minute to play in regulation in both victories. Cosgrove poured in 22 points Monday night against Robert Morris, including six triples, as SHU broke the program's single game record for three-pointers with 14.
Cosgrove broke a 59-59 tie with 58 seconds remaining on a trey from the left corner Saturday afternoon as Sacred Heart went on to defeat Saint Francis (PA), 64-61. Two days later the SHU all-time leader for three-pointers struck again as Cosgrove buried a shot from the same spot to give her team a 67-65 lead over Robert Morris with 35 seconds left.
For the week Cosgrove averaged 15.0 points per game and a blistering 72.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc. She now ranks second on the NEC all-time list for three-point field goal percentage. Cosgrove's lights out performance from downtown Monday night was the second time this season the senior guard hit at least five triples in a game.
Cosgrove and the Pioneers return to action on the road next weekend for a Saturday meeting against St. Francis (NY) and a Monday night clash at Long Island.
