Johanna Lopez Signs Letter of Intent to Play for Pioneers in 2012-13

Johanna Lopez (Silver Springs, M.D.) has officially committed to playing for Sacred Heart and head coach Ed Swanson in 2012-13 by signing a National Letter of Intent. Lopez, a forward for Montgomery Blair High School, scored an even 300 points her junior season, shooting 56.5% on the year. She was named to the All-Gazette (Silver Spring Gazette) First Team her sophomore and junior seasons. 

"Johanna is hybrid-four, she can do a little bit of everything," said Head Coach Ed Swanson. "She fits our up-tempo style. Her offensive and defensive aggressiveness is just what we look for in a player."

Lopez played for the DC Heat club team. Totaling 338 points in the 2011 season for an average 8.4 points per game. She helped the Heat to the United States Junior National Under-17 Gold Division Championship in Washington, D.C. this past July, and was vital in securing the win. 

"Johanna played a pivotal role for the team," said Brian Wiley, head coach of the D.C. Heat. "She hit key buckets and got some timely steals and caused many turnovers to help secure the championship.

Johanna Lopez is one of three recent signings by the Pioneers.

"I chose Sacred Heart University because I wanted more of a small-to-midsize school with a great student-to-teacher ratio. They have an excellent accredited business program, my area of study — a solid basketball program and great coaches," said Lopez.
