Pioneers Look for Third Win Hosting Lehigh on Wednesday
The Storyline...The Pioneers look to continue their hot start against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Sacred Heart kicked off the season with a win over the Saints in Siena, followed by a big win in the home opener against the Columbia Lions. The Mountain Hawks are looking for their first win Wednesday. Lehigh is carrying an 0-2 record after losing to La Salle and Saint Joseph's last weekend.
The Series...Sacred Heart currently holds a 1-3 all-time record against Lehigh entering Wednesday's game. The teams first met in Lehigh on Jan. 9, 1999, where the Mountain Hawks handed the Pioneers a 76-73 loss. Two seasons later, the Pioneers went to Lehigh to even the series at one. However, the last two contests have gone in Lehigh's favor, including their last meeting in 2007.
Last Meeting with Lehigh... The Mountain Hawks squeezed out a win on Feb. 9, 2000, beating Sacred Heart by only two points, 77-75. Lehigh watched a 12-point halftime lead slowly erode in the second half, but held on for the victory. The Mountain Hawks had extended the lead to nine points with just less than two minutes left in the game off a big three-pointer from Erica Prosser in the corner. The game appeared to be sealed, but a string of missed free throws gave the Pioneers a chance and Alisa Apo drilled a key three-pointer to cut the lead to just two points with 48.5 remaining. But Lehigh was able to hit the key shots in the final seconds to walk away with the victory.
