Pioneers Head Home to Face Stony Brook Wednesday at 7 pm
The Storyline...The Pioneers are coming off their first loss of the season after starting the season with four wins, a hard-fought defeat 63-54 at the hands of St. Joseph's University. They return home Wednesday night looking to begin a hot streak as they take on the Stony Brook Seawolves of the America East Conference. Stony Brook is also coming off a loss, their fourth of the season, to No. 18 Ohio State 84-37. They are searching for their second win of the season.
The Series...Sacred Heart leads in the All-Time series that began December 15, 1990. The Pioneers have defeated the Seawolves nine times and have only lost five. The Pioneers are a perfect 9-0 vs. Stony Brook when hosting at the Pitt Center. The last time the teams met on November 24, 2009, the Pioneers defeatd the Seawolves 83-70.
Scouting the Seawolves...The Seawolves have fallen four times this year, three of which were decided by eight points or less. Their only win was a squeeze over Robert Morris 42-40. The Seawolves average 42.2 points per game, while their opponents average 54.4. Their top scorer, junior Dani Klupenger, averages 8.6 points per game.
SHU Against the America East... In the 55 times Sacred Heart has played America East teams, the Pioneers hold a 35-20 record. The majority of play has been against Albany and Stony Brook, both of whom the Pioneers play again this year. Sacred Heart has a winning record against both, 9-5 against both schools. SHU does not have a losing record against any America East team, however they are even with the University of Hartford (5-5) and University of New Hapshire (1-1).
