Women's Basketball Takes Down Saint Peter's 80-50 En Route to Their 8th Win

Jersey City, N.J.—The women's basketball team pummels Saint Peter's 80-55 to pick up their eighth win of the season.

Saint Peter's Lauren Morris put the first points on the board, but jumpers by Callan Taylor (Overland Park, Kan.) and Enjoli Bland (Queen Creek, Ariz.) put the Pioneers up 4-2 within a minute.

The Peahens got off one more shot, a layup by Aminah Davis, before Sacred Heart turned up the heat with a eight-point run that included two shots by Taylor, as well as layup by Kiley Evans (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and a jumper from Blair Koniszewski (Vienna, Va.).

With five minutes left in the first half, Khadijah Young hit a three to cap off an impressive 16-point Peahen run to knot the game up at 26. However, the Pioneers would go into the break with a 37-30 lead thanks to layups from Morgan Merriman (Seattle, Wa.) and Katie Shepard (Lone Tree, Co.) and five made free throws by Koniszewski.

The Pioneers came out of the locker room with guns blazing, going on the offensive attack right from the start of the second half scoring 12 points before Saint Peter's could even find a basket.

Even though Sacred Heart forced 11 turnovers in the half, the Peahens did manage to put 25 points on the board. Davis did the majority of the scoring for Saint Peter's, tallying six points in the half—10 total. However, it was nowhere near enough to hang on to the game.

Every player had a hand in this stellar offensive performance. Taylor led the way with 23 points. She was one of three Pioneers who made it into double-digits tonight. Freshman Gabrielle Washington (Mesa, Ariz.) and Koniszewski lit up the scoreboard with 10 points each.

The Pioneers head home after this 3-0 road trip Sunday to host Cal Poly at 1:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
