Sacred Heart Looks For Two-Straight Hosting Wagner
The Storyline... On Saturday the Pioneers rebonded from the loss to Quinnipiac with a big 18-point win over Mount St. Mary's, 72-54. With just a one-game gap between the first place Pioneers and No. 2 Bobcats, Sacred Heart is looking to build on that win with another one over the 2-18 Wagner Seahawks. Wagner has not had much luck so far this season, and is looking for its second conference win on Monday night when they come to Fairfield.
The Series... In the all-time series that started with a Sacred Heart win on Dec. 7, 1978, the Pioneers have the lead, holding a 17-8 record against the Seahawks. Sacred Heart has only fallen once to Wagner while at home, the first time they faced as NEC opponents on January 18, 2000, 74-44.
Scouting the the Seahawks... After falling to Quinnipiac on the road 77-60 in their last game, Wagner come into Monday's game without a road win (0-12), 2-18 overall. The currently last place Seahawks only have one conference win. The topped St. Francis (NY) 49-45. Kelly Clark leads the offense, averaging 14.1 points per game and has a field goal percentage of 49.1.
Evans Excellence... Kiley Evans led the Pioneers on Saturday with 19 points, a season high for the junior guard. Her 19 points equaled the total scored by the Mount St. Mary's bench in the 72-54 win. She was 62.5% from the field (5-8) and a perfect six-for-six from the charity stripe.
Golden Double-Doubles... In Monday's 72-54 win over Mount St. Mary's, Callan Taylor hit another milestone, the fiftieth double-double of her career. The senior put a big 18 points up on the board, while pulling down 12 rebounds. This was Taylor's twelth double-double of the season. In the previous game against Quinnipiac, the small forward nabbed the 1,000th rebound of her career, just the second person in Sacred Heart history to do so.
