Callan Taylor Named to ECAC All-Star Team

Fairlfield, Conn.— Callan Taylor of the Sacred Heart women's basketball team was named to the 2011-12 ECAC Division I Women's Basketball All-Star Second Team yesterday.

Taylor led the Pioneers to their fourth NEC regular season title, and third NEC Championship this season earning their way into the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Chapel Hill, N.C. Named to the All-Tournament Team, the small forward averaged 11.7 points and a team-leading 9.3 rebounds in the three rounds of the NEC Tournament. Last weekend, against Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets held Taylor to only 10 points and four rebounds. Knowing she was a driving force for the Pioneers, Georgia Tech minimized Taylor to only 31 minutes in the game after she picked up three quick fouls

She wrapped up her final season in a Pioneer uniform nearly averaging a double-double with a team-leading 16.3 points and 9.6 rebounds, and her 49.5 shooting percentage was a league best this season.

Taylor will go down as one of the most decorated players in Sacred Heart women's basketball history. This year's NEC Player of the Year is just the second Pioneer with 1,000 career points and rebounds. Earlier this season she became the all-time rebounding leader when she pulled down her 1,033rd board against Monmouth breaking Kelley Grey's record set 20 years earlier. Taylor closes her collegiate career with 1,822 points and 1,123 rebounds, averaging 14.5 points per game over her four years.   She finished with the more combined points and rebounds than any Pioneer in school history.
