Sacred Heart Women's Basketball Announces 2013-14 Non-Conference Schedule

Fairfield, Conn. (June 27, 2013)—Sacred Heart Women's Basketball Head Coach Jessica Mannetti announced the non-conference schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season. SHU has four first-time matchups on the slate this season.

"This seasons non-conference schedule creates some great opportunities to play against tough competition as we begin our preparations for the 18-game NEC season ahead," said Mannetti. "I think it will certainly contribute to our early growth as we embrace a new system and continue on our quest for continued excellence."

Mannetti will make her head coaching debut when the Pioneers open the season on November 8 when they host St. John's at home in the William H. Pitt Center, where they have been dominant posting a .875 winning percentage (28-4) over the last two years. Sacred Heart will also take on, for the first time, Villanova at home on Wednesday, November 20, head to Rutgers on Sunday, December 15 and host Maine to close out the non-conference slate on Sunday, December 29.

In addition, Sacred Heart will play two other non-conference contests in the Pitt Center, hosting Iona on December 3 and Hartford on December 21. This is the first time the Pioneers are facing Iona since the 2004-05 season. SHU is 2-5 against Iona and 5-4 against Hartford all time.

Sacred Heart travels to the Grand Canyon State for the Arizona State Tournament featuring ASU, Long Beach State and Harvard, December 6-8.

Back on the schedule this season are games at Yale on Saturday, November 16, Saint Peter's on Saturday, November 23, and Siena on Tuesday, November 26. The Pioneers defeated all three teams last year, rolling past Saint Peter's 79-34 in the home-opener, and scraping out wins over Siena (61-60) and Yale (67-62) to close out the 2012-13 non-conference schedule.
