Women's Basketball Announces Class of 2018

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (November 18, 2013)—The Sacred Heart women's basketball team announced the incoming Class of 2018 Monday morning. This year the Pioneers have two National Letter of Intent signees: New Jersey natives Katherine Haines and Kiana Ye.

"I am excited to announce that Katherine Haines and Kiana Ye are the latest additions to our Sacred Heart Women's Basketball Family!" said Sacred Heart Head Coach Jessica Mannetti.

Haines was named to All-County Team, All-Group 2 second team and All-Junior third team last season after leading the Ridgefield Park Scarlets to the Bergen County Tournament semifinals. In the process, the Scarlets upset No. 5 Immaculate Conception and the defending champs No. 4 Teaneck. As a junior, the 6'2" center averaging 18.2 points per game, and at the end of three seasons at Ridgefield Park owned 1,238 career points. Haines showed she could compete at the national level winning the PSB Summer Invitational and the Adidas Nationals in Georgia with her AAU team the NJ Sparks.

"Katherine shined this summer while playing at the national level with her AAU team the NJ Sparks, and will add depth to our post position," said Mannetti. "She is a gritty, tough, hustle player who prides herself on crashing the boards and running the floor. She is a welcomed addition to our new system and will thrive both offensively and defensively in our up-tempo style of play."

Ye, of Williamstown, N.J., made her name known last year when she led the entire state of NewJersey with 3.6 made three-point field goals per game. The 5'7" shooting guard averaged 14.7 points per game her junior season at Paul VI Catholic High School while shooting .598 from the field.

"Kiana is also coming off of an impressive summer with her AAU team the Mid-Atlantic Heat, and brings a dynamite work ethic to our program" said Mannetti. "Kiana has a high basketball IQ coupled with a "team-first" mentality. She is a lights-out shooter with deadly range from three and will add depth to our guard position."
